Born at Lambourn, Berkshire, and was baptised there on the 24th of July 1836, the son of James and Mary, nee Dean, Phillips. His parents were married at Lambourn on the 10th of February 1833.
Enlisted at Brighton on the 10th of February 1854.

Sent to Scutari on the 30th of December 1834 and died there on the 2nd of February 1855.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol.
