A medal with four clasps was sold by Fenton's in November of 1912, at Glendining's on the 6th of October 1921 and again on the 9th of December 1921.
An officially impressed naming Crimean medal, with four clasps and with a Turkish Crimean medal (Sardinian type) with engraved naming, was in a Hayward's list for March of 1968.
He is not known to have ever been a member of the Balaclava Commemoration Society, either in 1877 or 1879.

Samuel Potter was buried in Stapenhill Cemetery (also known as Burton Cemetery), Stapenhill Road, Burton-upon-Trent, on the 23rd of February 1888, in Grave No. 1560, aged 60 years.

4th Hussars — Samuel Potter died on the 20th of February 1888 at Burton-on-Trent. He took part in the Charge as a Corporal and later became a Sergeant. For the past twenty-five years he worked in the Building Department of Messrs Bass Brewery...

A stone erected to his memory, consisting of a stone cross and kerb, has the inscription:
This monument was erected by subscription to the memory of Samuel Potter (of Lichfield) late of Burton-upon-Trent, who took part with the 4th Light Dragoons in the memorable charge at Balaclava. Died February 20th 1888, aged 60 years.
"Honour the Charge they made — Noble Six Hundred."
Also buried in the same grave-space are Julia Donaldson, aged 76 years, buried on the 19th of March 1886, and Jessie Sophia Potter, aged 63 years, buried on the 9th of May 1901. The first and last names could have been his mother-in-law and his wife.
