Born at Axminster, Devonshire.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Hounslow on the 20th of September 1848.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Baker.

Service

1851 Census

Pockthorpe Cavalry Barracks, Norwich.

George Sampson, aged 20, unmarried, Soldier, Private, born Axminster, Devon.

He was the servant of R.S.M. George Loy Smith in the Crimea. In his "Memoirs" Loy refers to him as "an excellent forager".

Died "in the General Hospital" at Scutari on the 21st of December 1855.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman, and Sebastopol.

Death & burial

Died "in the General Hospital" at Scutari on the 21st of December 1855.
