Birth & early life

Born at Swaffham, Norfolk.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 16th of December 1854.

Age: 24.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Servant.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Blue eyes. Brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 25th of May 1855.

From Private to Corporal: 10th of September 1857.

Reduced to Private by a Regimental Court-martial for "absence" on the 2nd of June 1858,

Invalided to Chatham on the 10th of April 1861

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 30th of April 1861:

"Unfit for further service from Pulmonary Consumption following an attack of influenza which he did not report sufficiently early."

Conduct: "good".

Five times entered in the Regimental Defaulters' book.

Once tried by Court-martial.

Served 6 years 108 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year.

To live in Weymouth, Dorset, after discharge.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.
