1803, Private Robert SARGEANT — 4th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born at Stockport, Cheshire.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Liverpool by the 3rd L.D for the 4th on the 8th of January 1855.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Clerk.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 20th of June 1855.

"Deserted" from Brighton on the 18th of September 1856 and rejoined the regiment on the 26th of December 1856.

Confined in Lewes Gaol from the 27th of December 1856 to the 8th of March 1857.

Transferred to the 7th Hussars at Aldershot on the 1st of August 1857. Regimental No. 95.

Served in the field in Oude, East Indies, 4th of February — 14th of May 1858, including the siege of Lucknow, 2nd-16th of March 1858.

Transferred to the 5th Lancers (Un-attached List) in India on the 31st of July 1870.

While on the Un-attached List he was a Clerk at the Lawrence Memorial Asylum, stationed at Murree, Bengal.

He was shown as "Remanded for Regimental Duty," on the 11th of June 1871 for "Misconduct."

Rejoined the regiment (as a Private) on the 1st of July 1871 and embarked for England on the 8th of November 1871.

Can find no further trace to 1879.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Mutiny medal with clasp for Lucknow.
