Birth & early life

Born in the parish of St. Pancras, London.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 20th of November 1838.

Trade: Printer.

No other enlistment details are shown.

Service

He did not serve at Ghuznee. Arrived from England to join the regiment "as a recruit," on the 16th of July 1839.

Returned to England from India aboard the "Mary" on the 12th of March 1842, having left Bombay on the 13th of December 1841.

In "military confinement", 3rd-16th of December 1842, and was in Lewes Gaol from the 17th of December 1842 to the 2nd of March 1843.

He was at Varna on the 30th of September 1854, but no date is shown as to just when he rejoined the regiment in the Crimea proper.

Died "at Balaclava", on the 16th of July 1855.

Next of kin: Wife, Bridget Shackle. With the Regiment in the Crimea.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol.

Possibly also entitled to the medal for Ghuznee. No medal rolls exist for this medal, but he was serving in India with the regiment at this time.

Life after service

Death & burial

Died "at Balaclava", on the 16th of July 1855.

Next of kin: Wife, Bridget Shackle. With the Regiment in the Crimea.
