Born at Stansfield, near Sudbury, Suffolk.
Enlisted at Sheffield on the 26th of December 1854.
He was a volunteer from the 2nd West Yorkshire Militia.

Sent to Scutari on the 26th of July 1855 and invalided to England on the 23rd of August .

Transferred to the 19th Hussars on the 1st of November 1863. Regimental No. 689.
En route for Calcutta on the 28th of February 1867.
Embarked for England on the 19th of March 1867
Discharged, "time expired", from Canterbury on the 3rd of August 1867.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Mutiny medal without clasp.
Served with a detachment under Lieut. Colonel Edward Seager, being "On Field Service" from the 28th of December 1858 to the 21st of May 1859 ,and "In action at Boordah on the 5th of April 1859.".
