Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H.T. "Echunga" on the 15th of May 1854. Transferred to the 1st Royal Dragoons on the 1st of June 1855. Regimental No. 1652.
Transferred to the 2nd Dragoon Guards on the 1st of January 1857. Regimental No. 114.

"In cells": 18th-25th of April 1857.
"Absent": 16th-18th of June.
"Given up" as a deserter to the Royal Artillery on the 19th of June 1857.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava Inkerman and Sebastopol.
He is not however, shown on the Sebastopol clasp roll of the 8th. but on the medal roll of the 1st Royal Dragoons for the Sebastopol clasp.
He is said by Lummis and Wynn to have attended the Annual Dinner in London in 1899, but he is not shown as being a member of the Balaclava Commemoration Society in either 1877 or 1879, known to have ever attended any of the veteran's functions, or to have been invited by T.H. Roberts to the Jubilee Celebrations at his London office in June of 1897.
