Born in Coventry.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Kilkenny on the 15th of September 1845.

To go to the Regimental Band. Special enlistment, by Authority of the Horse Guards, dated the 15th of September 1845.

Age: 15.

Height: 5' 0"

Trade: School-boy.

Service

From Private to Corporal: 3rd of June 1851.

Reduced to Private by a Regimental Court-martial on the 28th of June 1851.

Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H.T. "Medora" on the 27th of April 1854. From Private to Corporal: 23rd of January 1855.

Corporal to Sergeant: 26th of April 1856.

Reduced to Private by a Regimental Court-martial on the 2nd of May 1857.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

Death & burial

"Killed-in-action", at Bejapore, India, on the 5th of September 1858.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Inkerman and Sebastopol. Mutiny medal with clasp for Central India.

Served at Kotah and Gwalior.

Further information

The Returned Medal book shows his Mutiny medal as having been "returned to the Mint.No trace of issue."
