1791, Private James TINGEY - 11th Hussars

Birth & early life

Born in Southwark, London.

Originally served as No. 1463 in the Tower Hamlets Militia, being released in order to enlist into the 11th Hussars.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Westminster on the 21st of November 1854.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Baker.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Hazel eyes. Brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 25th of May 1855.

Transferred to the 1st Bn. of the Military Train on the 31st of October 1856. Regimental No. 658.

Transferred to the 4th Bn. on the 17th of March 1857.

Transferred to the Commissariat Staff Corps on the 1st of October 1859.

Transferred to the Army Service Corps on the 1st of April 1870. Regimental 1765.

Served in the Supply Branch.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Dublin on the 7th of December 1875.

"Claimed discharge after completion of limited service."

Served 21 years 16 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year. Canada, 6 years 7 months.

Conduct: "very good".

In possession of four Good Conduct badges and would have been entitled to a fifth on the 21st of November 1875.

Seven times entered in the Regimental Defaulters' book. Never tried by Court-martial.

Aged 41 years on discharge.

To live at 27, Hollington Street, Camberwell, London.

Documents confirm the award of the Crimean medal, clasp for Sebastopol and the Turkish Medal.
