1241, Private George TOWNSEND - 13th Light Dragoons
Birth & early life
Born c.1826, presumably in or close to Cheltenham (given his listing on the Crimean memorial there).
Enlistment
Enlisted at Gloucester on the 14th of April 1844.
Age: 17 years 11 months.
Height: 5' 6".
Trade: None shown.
Medals
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma and Sebastopol.

A "Private James Townsend 13th Light Dragoons" is recorded on the Crimean War memorial outside the Queen's Hotel in Cheltenham. This is almost certainly the same man. (There is another photograph in the 17th Lancer file.)
Death & burial
Died, "of disease", in the Regimental Hospital on the 14th of October 1854.
