Born in West Derby, Lancaster.
Enlisted at Manchester on the 13th of November 1854.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 1st of August 1855.
He was shown on a nominal roll of men of the Regiment made out at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, on the 9th of November 1855 as being a Batman there (but not shown to whom) from the 4th of November. From this he did not serve in Eupatoria with the regiment.
Sent to Weedon to be instructed in saddle-tree-making on the 1st of October 1857.
Died at Aldershot on the 6th of July 1863.

A son, James, entered the Royal Military Asylum, Chelsea on the 16th of January 1866, aged 6 years and 5 months. His father was shown as "Dead" and his mother, Maria, as "Still alive". He was shown as being "delivered over to his mother" at the age of 13 years 10 months, on the 30th of June 1872.
