1745, William THACKERAY - 4th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born at Pool, near Otley, Yorkshire, and was baptised there on the 2nd of January 1831,the son of William and Mary Thackeray.

Enlistment

Enlisted at York by the 3rd Light Dragoons for the 4th on the 6th of December 1854.

Age: 24.

Height: 5' 6.'

Trade: Slubber.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Brown eyes. Lt. brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 1st of June 1855.

Transferred to the Military Train on the 20th of September 1856 but rejoined the 4th L.D. on the 4th of November 1856 on being found "Unsuitable." Regimental No. in the Military Train, 720.

Discharge & pension

Discharged on the "Reduction of the Regiment," from Brighton on the 24th of November 1856.

Served 1 year 352 days.

Conduct: "good". Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
