Born at Pool, near Otley, Yorkshire, and was baptised there on the 2nd of January 1831,the son of William and Mary Thackeray.
Enlisted at York by the 3rd Light Dragoons for the 4th on the 6th of December 1854.

Discharged on the "Reduction of the Regiment," from Brighton on the 24th of November 1856.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.
