Born at Glastonbury [probably Oxenhill, 3 miles northwest of Glastonbury], c.1823.

1841 Census

Edward Willcox, 18.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 11th of January 1845.

Age: 21.

Height: 5' 9".

Trade: Servant.

Service

1851 Census

Pockthorpe Cavalry Barracks, Norwich.

Edward Wilcox, soldier, unmarried, 27, Private, born Meare Somerset.

Slightly wounded in action at Balaclava.

In hospital during April and May 1855.

Died "of cholera" in Camp Kadikoi on the 25th of June 1855.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava and Sebastopol.

Death & burial

Died "of cholera" in Camp Kadikoi on the 25th of June 1855.

He was buried in the 11th Hussar Cemetery on the road between Kadikoi and Karani. (There is a copy of the memorial inscription in the 11th Hussar file.)
