Birth & early life

Born at Ham, near Richmond, Surrey.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Westminster on the 9th of September 1854.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Servant.

Appearance: Fair complexion. Grey eyes. Lt. brown hair

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 1st of June 1855.

From Private to Corporal: 19th of July 1855.

Removed to Private 14th of August 1855.

"Absent without leave", 19th-24th of February 1858. Tried by a Regimental Court-martial and imprisoned from the 27th of February — 29th of March 1858.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "by purchase", from Dundalk on the 11th of November 1864... He having paid the regulatory compensation of £10, which sum has been lodged in the hands of the Regimental Paymaster...

Served 10 years 23 days, to count.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 10 months.

Conduct: "a good soldier".

In possession of two Good Conduct badges.

Seven times entered in the Regimental Defaulters' book. Once tried by Court-martial.

Intending to live at No. 39 South Street, Manchester Square, London after discharge.

Documents confirm the award of the Crimean and Turkish medals.

He was awarded a Special Campaign Pension (no date shown).

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
