Born in Marylebone, London, and was christened there on the 26th of March 1817, the son of Frederick William Wheeler and his wife, Harriet.

Returned to England aboard the "Repulse" on the 27th of March 1842, having left Bombay on the 28th of December 1841.
Joined the regiment in the Crimea proper from Varna on the 6th of February 1855.
Discharged from Dublin on the 26th of November 1860.
"Being unfit for Her Majesty's Service. Has been ruptured since 1858 and for the past twelve months has complained of chronic rheumatism and general debility. His medical disabilities may be attributable to long service and climatic conditions and have not been aggravated by vice or mis-conduct."
