1494, Private Henry WADDINGTON — 8th Hussars

Birth & early life

Born in Bradford, Yorkshire.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Sheffield by the 7th Hussars for the 8th, on the 26th of December 1854.

He was a volunteer from the 2nd West Yorks Militia.

Age: 25.

Height: 5' 5".

Trade: Boiler-man.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Blue eyes. Dk. brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 15th of June 1855.

Tried by a District Court-martial at Ismid on the 8th of April 1856 for "Desertion" and sentenced to 56 days' imprisonment, with hard labour.

There is no record of him in the musters for the October-December Quarter of 1856 except a pencilled note at the bottom of the page showing his number, name, and "why discontinued".

Transferred to the Depot of the Military Train on the 1st of January 1857. Regimental No. 199.

To the 5th Battalion on the 1st of April 1857.

"Deserted" from Bristol on the 10th of April 1857.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

Life after service

Can find no further trace to 1879.
