Birth & early life

Born in Bradford, Yorkshire.

Enlistment

Enlisted at York by the 7th Hussars for the 8th Hussars, on the 26th of December 1854.

Age: 22.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Collier.

Appearance: Fair complexion. Hazel eyes. Dk. brown hair.

Service

Embarked on the 24th of May and joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 15th of April 1855.

Transferred to the Depot of the Military Train on the 20th of September 1856. Regimental No. 212.

Rejoined the 8th Hussars on the 4th of November 1856 on his being found as "Unsuitable."

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

Transferred to the 19th Hussars on the 1st of November 1863. Regimental No. 744.

"In gaol" at Meerut, India, 1st of May — 30th of June 1864.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Chinsuah, India, on the 20th of March 1867. No other details are given.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Mutiny medal with clasp for Central India.

Served at Kotah.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
