Enlisted at Dublin on the 6th of December 1841.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: None shown.

Service

Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H.T. "Mary Anne" on the 19th of April 1854. Died at Nusserabad, India, on the 11th of October 1858.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol.

Mutiny medal with clasps for Central India.

Served at Kotah.

The Returned Medal book shows... Mutiny medal returned to the Mint. Medal issued, (no date shown.)

Death & burial

The India Office records show him as dying of "Febris Remittens" at Nusserabad on the 11th of October 1858. He was buried on the 12th of October by "The Officers attending the funeral." Aged 35 years. He was then named as John Whelaid.
