Born in Leeds.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Birmingham into the 7th Hussars on the 26th of September 1854, with the Regimental No. of 1410

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Engineer.

Transferred at "his own request" to the 8th Hussars on the 31st of December, 1854

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 2nd of June 1855,

Confined, 4th of June 1857, Tried by a District Court-martial for Insubordination on the 5th and in a Military Prison until the 29th of September.

Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "time expired", from Manchester on the 13th of May 1867.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Mutiny medal with clasp for Central India.

Served at Kotah.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

1881 Census

No. 18 Barclay Street, Leeds.

A man of this name was shown in the 1881 Census Returns as a Lodger in the house of Emma Thorpe, a Dressmaker. He was described as Book-keeper, aged 46, born in Leeds.
