Birth & early life

Born at Forfar, Scotland.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Edinburgh on the 25th of February 1851.

Age: 19.

Height, 5' 8".

Trade: Groom.

Service

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial for "desertion" on the 3rd of July 1851 and sentenced "to lose all of his previous service."

Sent to Scutari on the 19th of October 1854 aboard the "Culloden", and invalided to England on the 16th of May 1855.

At the Dorchester Depot from Chatham Invalid Depot from the 1st of October 1855.

In custody of the Civil Power, 22nd of November 1855 — 29th of February 1856, no reason shown.

Transferred to the 3rd Dragoon Guards on the 28th of February 1857. Regimental No. 263.

There is no entry for him on the muster roll of the regiment for the April-June quarter of 1857 and no further trace of him can yet be found.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Sebastopol and the Turkish medal.
