1702, Private Denis DONOVAN — 13th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born at Enniskeen, Co. Cork, Ireland, c.1834.

Enlistment

Originally served as No. 1548 in the Tower Hamlets Militia, and was released in order to enlist in the 13th Light Dragoons.

Enlisted at Westminster on the 7th of December 1854.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Tailor.

Features: Fair complexion. Grey eyes. Lt. brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea before the 1st of August 1855.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Cahir on the 14th of November 1856, on the:

"Reduction of the Army and not likely to become efficient. Labours under Pulmonary Consumption — the result of constitutional pre-disposition. Has been sickly since joining.

Now labours under inflammation of the left lung and even when he recovers from this he will be weak for some time and unable to earn his living."

Served 1 year 10 months. In Turkey and the Crimea, 10 months.

Conduct: "good." Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Aged 20 years on discharge.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
