Birth & early life

Born at Ayr, Scotland, c.1827.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Belfast on the 3rd of September 1846.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Farrier.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Hazel eyes. Brown hair.

Service

Remained at Dublin when the Regiment went to India for the Mutiny campaign.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Dublin on the 14th of October 1857, as "Invalided from fracture of the right arm — caused by the restlessness of a horse being groomed."

Served 11 years 490 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea, 2 years.

Conduct "good".

In possession of one Good Conduct badge.

Aged 29 years 10 months on discharge.

Awarded a pension of 6d, per day "conditional" from the 11th of November 1857. Renewed annually until the 2nd of December 1863, when it was made permanent.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman, Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Death & burial

Died in the Belfast Pension District on the 30th of April 1864.
