Birth & early life

Born at Ardencreagh, Co. Westmeath.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Athlone on the 25th of October 1848.

Age: 17 years 9 months.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Labourer.

Fair complexion. Grey eyes. Sandy hair.

Service

Sent to Scutari on the 27th of October 1854, rejoined on the 24th of November, sent back there on the 27th of December and invalided to England on the 27th of February 1855,

From Private to Corporal: 19th of July 1856.

Sent to the Invalid Depot at Chatham on the 5th of December 1856.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Chatham on the 23rd of December 1856.

"Totally unfit for further service — from breaking down of constitution resulting from service in the Crimea."

Aged 25 years 9 months on discharge.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 9 months.

Served 7 years 282 days.

Conduct and character: "a good soldier".

In possession of one Good Conduct badge.

Awarded a pension of 8d. per day for two years.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma and Sebastopol.

Living in the West London Pension District in 1858.
