Birth & early life

Born in Kent, c.1831.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 11th of December 1854.

Age: 23.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Clerk.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 29th of May 1855.

Tried by a District Court-martial on the 29th of October 1855 for "being drunk on duty, under arms." Awarded 56 days' imprisonment, with hard labour, but the sentence was remitted.

Invalided from the Crimea to Chatham Invalid Depot on the 30th of June 1856.

From Private to Corporal: 12th of September 1859.

He was the Regimental School-master (as a L/Sergeant) in 1861.
