Born in Angus, Scotland, c.1818.

Enlistment

Enlisted at London on the 10th of August 1839.

Age: 21.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Labourer.

Service

1851 Census

Pockthorpe Cavalry Barracks, Norwich.

James Macdonald [sic], 32, Private, born Angus, Scotland.

Tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 20th of December 1854 for "absence". Sentenced to 50 lashes, but 25th of these were remitted.

Died "of dysentery" aboard the "Colombo" on the passage down to Scutari on 17th of January 1855.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava, Inkerman and Sebastopol.
