Birth & early life

Born in Marylebone, London, c.1837.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Westminster on the 22nd of March 1855.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 9".

Trade: Porter.

Appearance: Sallow complexion. Brown eyes. Black hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 25th of May 1855.

Transferred to the 1st Bn. of the Military Train on the 31st of October 1856. Regimental No. 646.

He was a Cook in the Regiment from the 1st of September 1858 — March 1859.

Died "of sunstroke", in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, [sic?] on the 16th of May 1860.

Next of kin: Father, Thomas; brother, James, and sister, Mary. All living in Marylebone, London.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

The muster roll states, "Crimean medal, with clasp for Sebastopol, and the T.M., forwarded to the Regimental Depot."

He is not shown on the China "1860" medal roll, having died before the two actions for which was awarded took place.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

Death & burial

Died "of sunstroke", in Taiwan, Hong Kong, China, [sic?] on the 16th of May 1860.

Next of kin: Father, Thomas; brother, James, and sister, Mary. All living in Marylebone, London.

He left no will, his "credits" being £2/14/1d.
