Absent from Hounslow from the 15th of September 1848, and shown as a "deserter" from the 22nd of September.
He rejoined the regiment on the 6th [PB: ?] of January 1849. "In confinement", 1st — 8th January, and tried by a Regimental Court-martial on the 9th, imprisoned in Fort Clarence Military Prison until the 30th of March 1849.
He was then described as being of a fair complexion, grey eyes, and brown hair, his next of kin being shown as his father, James Muir.
"Absent" from Norwich, 3rd — 7th of July, in "Barrack Cells" on the 8th, and imprisoned by a Regimental Court-martial from the 9th of July — 18th of August 1850.

Lummis and Wynn state that he was also entitled to that for Sebastopol, but there is no entry for him on the Sebastopol clasp roll.
