Birth & early life

Born in the parish of Leaney, near Rathbone, Co. Westmeath, c.1810.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Ballincollig on the 8th of January 1831.

Age: 21.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Labourer.

Features: Sallow complexion. Grey eyes. Dk. brown hair.

Service

Sent to Scutari on the 12th of October 1854.

Invalided to England aboard the "Simla" on the 16th of April 1855.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 16th of October 1855:

"Found unfit for further service from chronic pains consequent upon long service."

Served 24 years 248 days.

Conduct: "good".

In possession of five Good Conduct badges. Never tried by Court-martial.

Aged 46 years on discharge.

To live in Dublin, but he was living in the Chatham Pension District from 1865.

Pension letters to the 12th of September 1885.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Awarded the Long Service & Good Conduct medal on the 22nd of March 1855, with a gratuity of £5.

Life after service

He was living in the Dublin Pension District in April of 1882, after being in that of Athlone.
