Promoted to Saddler-Sergeant (vice Scarfe) on the 1st of July 1855.
Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma, Balaclava and Sebastopol.
The Returned Medal book states "Crimean medal returned to the Mint. No trace of issue."
Died "in the Regimental Hospital" at Ismid on the 25th of March 1856.
Next of kin: Shown as "Not known — would never reveal." (He could possibly have been a son of John McNeil and his wife, Maria (nee Robertson) who were married at Cannongate, Edinburgh, on the 24th of December 1826.)
