Enlisted at London on the 18th of July 1854.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Servant.

Features: Fair complexion. Grey eyes. Light brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 15th of April 1855.

Discharge & pension

Discharged as:

"Not likely to become efficient and on the Reduction of the Army. This young soldier is unfit for further service from a weak and delicate constitution. Not caused by vice or mis-conduct. Conduct in hospital — Good."

Served 2 years 237 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year.

Aged 20 years 9 months on discharge.

Was awarded a pension of 6d. per day.

To live in Walworth, London.

Pension letters to the 30th of December 1873.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

There is an entry in red ink on his documents — "Awarded the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol" — signed by an official on behalf of the War Office and dated the 27th of February 1915.

Henry Shipway is shown in the 1901 Census as a "Hospital Porter", aged 67, living in London. His parish is not given.
