Birth & early life

Born at Harrogate, Yorkshire.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Chester on the 14th of November 1854.

Age: 23.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Mason.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea from Brighton on the 15th of August 1855. Embarked for India from Cork aboard the S.S. "Great Britain" on the 8th of October 1857.

Was batman to Captain White in India.

The musters for July-September 1858 show no particular service movement during the whole of the period.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "time expired", from Aldershot on the 14th of December 1866.

Medals & commemorations

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol, and the Turkish medal.

Mutiny medal without clasp. (Shown on roll as Henry "Somers".)
