Born in Clerkenwell, London.

Enlistment

Enlisted into the Scots Fusilier Guards at London on the 20th of December 1854. Regtl. No. 5277.

Age: 19.

Height: 5' 11".

Trade: Cheese-monger.

Transferred to the 13th Light Dragoons at Portsmouth on the 30th of June 1855.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 13 of August 1855.

From Private to Corporal: 1st of January 1856.

Corporal to Sergeant: 31st of December 1857.

Confined, 10th-16th of July 1859. Tred by a Regimental Court-martial on the 27th of July 1859, and reduced to Private.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "by purchase," from Edinburgh, on the 23rdf of August 1860. Payment of £5.

Discharged as "Edwin Charles Evans".

Conduct, "good." In possession of one Good Conduct badge.

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol. (No regimental number is shown on the medal roll.)

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
