Birth & early life

Born at Macclesfield, Cheshire, c.1835.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Manchester on the 15th of February 1855.

Age: 20.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Weaver.

Pale complexion. Blue eyes. Brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 20th of June 1855.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 30th of December 1856.

"Being totally unfit for service. Unfit from stiffness of right knee — the result of an accident whilst on duty. Medical report states — The apparent cause of the accident was a kick from a restive horse on the cap of the right knee and fracturing the patella..."

Served 1 year 264 days, Aged 21 years on discharge.

Conduct and character: "a good soldier". Not in possession of any Good Conduct badges.

Awarded a pension of 6d. per day.
