Birth & early life

Born at Bishopsgate, London.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Westminster on the 1st of January 1839.

Age: 20 years 6 months.

Height: 5' 6".

Trade: Labourer.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Grey eyes. Dk. brown hair.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 5th of April 1855.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 30th of December 1856.

"Reduction of the Army and being totally unfit for further service — from disease of the left hip. The result of a kick from a horse whilst on duty. — Occurred at Clonmell in 1847."

Served 17 years 363 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 1 year

In India: 3 years.

Conduct: "good".

In possession of two Good Conduct badges.

Awarded a pension of 7d. per day.

Living in East London after discharge.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Documents confirm the award of the Crimean medal with clasp — entered in red ink, no date.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

Documents returned to the War Office on the 28th of April 1898.
