1644 Henry HILLMAN — 4th Light Dragoons

Birth & early life

Born at Chatham.

Enlisted into the 15th Hussars at Maidstone on the 5th of March 1849. Regimental No. 1526.

No other enlistment details apart from his trade as a baker are shown.

Embarked for India aboard the "Tarter" on the 18th of October 1849, and arriving at Madras on the 20th of February 1850.

Transferred to the 4th Light Dragoons on the 1st of November 1854.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 26th of April 1855.

From Private to Corporal: 11th of November 1854.

Corporal to Sergeant: 1st of January 1855.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 28th of April 1855.

He was sent to Scutari on the 20th of September 1855 and to England on the 23rd.

"Deserted" whilst travelling from Worcester, where he had been on recruiting duties on the 17th of May 1858.

Rejoined the regiment on the 17th of June 1858.

Confined, and reduced to Private by a Regimental Court-martial on the 24th of June 1858.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Hamilton on the 20th of January 1866.

"At own request, with right of registry for a deferred pension upon reaching the age of 50 years."

Conduct: "good".

In possession of two G..C. badges.

To live at Sheerness, Kent, after discharge.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
