1422, Private William HAMILTON — 8th Hussars

Birth & early life

Born at Longford, Ireland, c.1829.

Service

Enlisted into the 15th Hussars at London on the 26th of January 1847. Regimental No. 1473.

Age: 18.

Height: 5' 8".

Trade: Clerk.

Appearance: Fresh complexion. Blue eyes. Brown hair.

Transferred to the 8th Hussars on the 1st of November 1854.

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 29th of April 1855.

Sent to Scutari on the 7th of August 1855 and invalided to England aboard the "Indiana" on an unknown date.

A man of this name, but given the Regimental number of "1482", was shown on a nominal roll made out at the Cavalry Depot, Scutari, on the 9th of November 1855 as having been "In Hospital" there from the 12th of August.

Discharge & pension

Discharged, "invalided", from Chatham Invalid Depot on the 10th of January 1856, as a result of:

"Extensive enlargement of the liver, general debility and rheumatism of the upper and lower extremities — attributable to cold contracted at Kertch and service in the East Indies."

Served 7 years 9 months in the 15th Hussars, 1 year 2 months in the 8th Hussars.

Awarded a pension of 7d. per day "conditional", for two years.

Conduct and character: good".

In possession of one Good Conduct badge.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.

Living in the West London Pension District after discharge.
