Birth & early life

Born at Westwick, near North Walsham, Norfolk.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Norwich on the 18th of November 1854.

Age: 22.

Height: 5' 5".

Trade: Labourer.

Service

Joined the regiment in the Crimea on the 14th of July 1855.

Shown on the muster rolls for the October-December Quarter of 1856 but for the January-March Quarter of 1857 there is only a pencilled entry at the bottom of a page showing his name and number with the query, "Why has he been discontinued."

Transferred to the 2nd Battalion of the Military Train on the 1st of January 1857. Regimental No. 205.

Served with the force under the command of H.E. the Commander-in-Chief at Lucknow and with that under Sir James Outram at Alum Bagh.

Discharge & pension

Discharged on the "Reduction of the Regiment" from Woolwich on the 12th of June 1861.

Served 6 years 208 days.

Conduct: "good".

In possession of one Good Conduct badge.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasp for Sebastopol.

Mutiny medal with clasps for Lucknow and the Relief of Lucknow.

Not recorded by Lummis and Wynn.
