Birth & early life

Born at Willenhall, near Wolverhampton, Staffordshire.

Enlistment

Enlisted at Nottingham on the 2nd of September 1852.

Age: 18 years 8 months.

Height: 5' 7".

Trade: Labourer.

Fair complexion. Blue eyes. Lt. brown hair.

Service

Embarked for the Crimea aboard the H.T. "Wilson Kennedy" on the 2nd of May 1854.

Sent to Scutari on the 2nd of October 1854 and embarked for England on the 29th of March 1855.

Discharge & pension

Discharged from Dundalk on the 21st of October 1856.

"Reduction of the Army and unfit for further service. Is in a secondary syphilitic condition which renders him unfit for the duties of a dragoon."

Served 4 years 48 days.

In Turkey and the Crimea: 9 months.

Conduct: "good".

In possession of one Good Conduct badge.

Aged 22 years 4 months on discharge.

Medals

Entitled to the Crimean medal with clasps for Alma and Sebastopol.

Awarded a pension of 6d. per day for 15 months.

To live in Birmingham.
